about

made between sept - dec 2020 using:

a tascam 424mkiii
a tascam porta 02 mkii
a trashy akai portable tape recorder
various loop tapes
a microkorg
a glockenspiel
a kalimba
a stylophone gen x-1
an egg shaker
lots of field recordings

everything here started off with tape loops, usually with the erase head taped over for MAX dreamy vibe overwash, made from one of the sources above and topped with more layers of synth / vocal / stuff.

i didn't really set out to make this a record but it has become a record of the last part 2020, with global pandemic, fear and inconsistent guidelines from our useless (UK) government. i dunno about anyone else but i have felt very much in a state of limbo for most of this year, waiting for some kind of timescale for when this shit show can end and we can move forward. i can't stand standing still at the best of times and this year i feel kind trapped in this bubble. i read a greg egan story recently about a pandemic (dude loves a pandemic) and funnily enough in this one ('silver fire') the virus eats the skin from the inside leaving peeps burning YOUCH however it is possible to keep peeps alive in a sort of stasis / bubble / fluid amniotic room sack kinda thing. i feel like i'm there.

anyway. i hope - i SINCERELY hope - that 2021 brings an end to this shit and my heart goes out to anyone who has lost loved ones during all this. this album started off and dreamy and nice but honestly it gets a bit horrible at times and i can only blame the reality of the year for that. i hope you enjoy listening to it still.

thanks as always for listening.
